Registered MOT Testing in Woking
As a registered MOT garage located in Woking, we carry out Class 4 MOT testing for all makes and models and our qualified and certified MOT technicians check your vehicle carefully and carry out repairs if necessary to help your car pass without any issues. We use the latest diagnostic tools and equipment to ensure your vehicle gets the highest level of attention during its MOT. And, as always, the test itself is carried out by VOSA certified mechanics.
MOT’S ARE REALLY IMPORTANT FOR YOUR CAR
If your car is more than three years old, you are required by law to get an MOT every year. This test is designed to make sure your vehicle is safe to be driven and meets current environmental standards.
If you drive without a valid MOT certificate, you could be fined or prosecuted, and you won’t be insured if you’re in an accident. It’s just not worth the risk. Here at Harding Autos, we make the process of booking your MOT simple and stress free. Whether you’re one of our regular customers or visiting us for the first time, we’ll make sure your vehicle gets the care and attention it needs to pass its MOT and stay road legal.

PRE-MOT SERVICES AVAILABLE
Not sure your car will pass its MOT? No problem. You can book a pre-MOT check with us to spot any small issues before your official test. This gives you time to get any repairs done and avoid any unwanted surprises on the day of your MOT. Many of our customers in Woking book a pre-MOT service for peace of mind, especially if their car hasn’t been looked at for a while.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MOTS
Can I book a same day MOT?
We understand that life can get busy and sometimes you realise your MOT has run out sooner than expected. We always try our best to offer same day MOT appointments wherever we can. Just give us a ring early in the day and if we’ve got availability, we’ll fit you in. We’ll never keep you waiting longer than necessary, and keeping our customers on the road safely is our top priority.
What do I need to bring for my MOT test?
For most MOT tests, all we need is your vehicle and the keys. If you’ve been coming to us for a while, we’ll already have your details in our system. If it’s your first time visiting, having your V5C log book or registration document can be helpful, but it’s not essential as we can usually find everything we need using your vehicle’s registration number.
Just make sure your car is reasonably clean (inside and out) so we can carry out the checks properly.
How early can I book my MOT?
You can book your MOT up to 28 days before your current certificate expires. A lot of our customers choose to book early to avoid last minute stress or getting caught out if something needs repairing. The good news is you don’t lose out on time as the renewal date stays the same, so your MOT will still last a full 12 months from your expiry date. We always recommend getting it sorted early, so there’s no risk of forgetting or running out of time.
What happens if my car fails its MOT?
If your car doesn’t pass its MOT, don’t panic! It happens more often than you might think. We’ll explain clearly why it failed and what needs to be fixed, and you’ll get a straightforward quote from us for any repair work, with no pressure to go ahead. If you choose to have the repairs done with us, we’ll get your vehicle sorted as quickly as possible and retest it afterwards. Our goal is to get you safely back on the road without unnecessary hassle or expense.
How long does an MOT test take?
On average, an MOT test takes around 45 minutes to an hour to complete. Of course, it depends on your car and whether we find any minor issues during the inspection. You’re welcome to wait in our workshop while we carry out the test – just let us know what you prefer. If you'd rather leave your vehicle with us, we’ll give you a call as soon as it’s ready to collect. Either way, we’ll aim to make it as convenient as possible.
Do electric cars need an MOT too?
Yes, electric vehicles need an MOT once they’re over three years old, just like petrol and diesel cars. The only difference is that electric vehicles don’t need an emissions test, since there are no exhaust gases. Other than that, all the usual safety checks – brakes, tyres, lights, suspension, and more – are exactly the same. Whether your car runs on fuel or electric, we can help you get your MOT sorted here at Harding Autos.
What if I don’t know when my MOT is due?
It’s easy to lose track of when your MOT is due, especially if life’s busy. If you’re unsure, just give us a call and we’ll help check it for you using your registration number. Alternatively, you can use a free online MOT checker. All you’ll need is your car’s registration plate to find out when your current certificate expires.
Can I drive if my MOT has expired?
No, if your MOT has expired you can’t legally drive your car (unless you’re driving it to a pre-booked MOT test). Driving without a valid MOT certificate can lead to a fine of up to £1,000 and may invalidate your insurance. Plus, if your car has any serious faults, you’re risking your safety and that of others on the road. It’s always best to get your MOT booked before it expires and we’re here to help make that easy.
How can I get my car ready for the MOT test?
Before your MOT, it’s a good idea to check a few simple things such as:
- Make sure all your lights are working
- Check tyre tread depth and condition
- Top up screen wash and other fluids
- Clear any warning lights from the dashboard
- Ensure your windscreen wipers are working properly
- Remove any clutter from inside the car
If you’re unsure, why not book a pre-MOT check with us? We’ll inspect your car before the official test and let you know if anything needs sorting in advance, it’s a great way to avoid unexpected failures.
